One Last Ballerina Trailer Brings High-Impact Combat

Fans of the John Wick franchise have had to wait a while for From the World of John Wick: Ballerina to arrive on the big screen. Fortunately, the wait for Ana de Armas-led spin-off is now down to a mere three weeks before its June 6, 2025, release. After a few trailers and a first look, Lionsgate has just released the final trailer for the film. And it is a big one.

Set during the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, Ballerina follows Eve Macarro (Ana de Armas) as she trains with a team of young ballerina-assassins. The scenes during Parabellum (2019) included a young Unity Phelan as Eve, who dances across a stage during her audition with the group. She’s a standout, and it was not a surprise when the project around her was officially announced.

Wick’s life is in shambles in Chapter 3 after he murders crime lord Santino D’Antonio (Riccardo Scamarcio) on the Continental Hotel grounds. Wick flees with a bounty of $14 million on his head and eventually arrives at the headquarters of the Ruska Roma, the director of which remains a mysterious force, the Director (Anjelica Huston). The group takes Wick in and allows the former assassin to train, serving as the acting school for his assassination skills. The Director’s ballerinas are more than just experts in dance — they are ballerina-killing machines.

Reprising the role in Ballerina, Huston will once again command the Ruska Roma as the secretive and powerful woman behind the group of ballerina-assassins. She is not the only actor set to reprise their role in the spin-off. Winston (Ian McShane), the kindly manager of the Continental Hotel, will also make an appearance. Charon (Lance Reddick), the Continental’s concierge, is also featured in the film — his first on-screen role since his death in March 2023.

Other cast members have been added to the crew to fill out the story. Gabriel Byrne plays the Chancellor, who becomes the main antagonist of Ballerina. Sharon Duncan-Brewster takes on the role of Nogi, Eve’s mentor within the film. Norman Reedus is also in the cast as Daniel Pine, though it is unknown what role he will play. Catalina Sandino Moreno and David Castañeda have also been confirmed as part of the cast, but their roles remain unrevealed.

Setting the Stage for Revenge in Stylish Fashion

The first trailer for Ballerina was released in September 2024. It focused on the early life of Eve, a ballerina who joined the ranks of the Ruska Roma when she was a child. Her goal is to train and eventually find her father’s killer and take revenge on their life for their death. The early footage showed a younger version of Eve, played by Phelan, before she was tasked with becoming the ballerina-assassin we met in Parabellum. It was a character-focused trailer that teased a more emotional spin-off for fans.

In March 2025, Lionsgate shared a second look at Ballerina. This time, the focus was on the similarities between Wick and Eve. While still retaining the John Wick character, the new trailer showed Wick and Eve in the same location after a scene showed the assassin holding Eve at gunpoint. The meeting between Wick and Eve was further evidence that de Armas’ character will be more than a side-story. The final trailer, then, was another opportunity to get people excited about a film that would be released just weeks later.

The official second trailer of Ballerina blasts viewers with a shot that focuses on Wick. In the crosshairs of his gun, we see Eve (Ana de Armas) staring directly at him. Quick cuts ensue as viewers are served a high-speed run of both new and previous footage. Fights and bullets fly while Wick and Eve hunt down other assassins in the opening minutes of the trailer. The violence is further emphasized with de Armas’ delivery of a key line for the character: “This isn’t done until they’re dead.” Fans know it is a line that’s specific to the John Wick universe, one that means business and shows determination.

While the first trailer for Ballerina was more reserved, the second and final trailers reflect the kind of larger-than-life action viewers expect from the franchise. Ballerina will deliver scenes with the quality choreography that Wick has become famous for, with plenty of fluid gunplay and hand-to-hand combat. It is also evident that Ana de Armas will be up to the task of starring as the assassin, with each fight including her running through complex action sequences as well.

As long as they don’t break up the dance with a conventional narrative, action choreographers will be in their element in Ballerina. Some of the best recent movies, including everything from Creed to The Matrix to John Wick itself, are ones with this kind of cohesive action style. This is a high bar that the new spin-off has to clear. A smaller number of fights — five or fewer, perhaps — will be able to be epic and exhilarating. More could lead to fatigue.
