Stranger Things Finale Teaser Previews Hawkins’ Last Stand
Netflix has released an extended official teaser trailer for the highly anticipated fifth and final season of Stranger Things, due to premiere later this year. As expected, the new video offers an eerie first look at what is sure to be the final battle between Hawkins’ classic team of heroes and the otherworldly terrors of the Upside Down.
The teaser opens with an ominous montage, including images of the Upside Down bleeding deeper into Hawkins, shadowy labs, prowling demo-dogs, and a hail of action-movie violence involving flamethrowers. One new image in particular is bound to make fans do a double-take: Linda Hamilton, Terminator actress and pop culture badass extraordinaire, arrives ready for war, packing heat and joining the Hawkins gang.
As viewers know, Season 4 ended on a massive cliffhanger when Vecna—the monstrous super-villain at the center of all the Upside Down evil—managed to fully open a gigantic gate, unleashing the Upside Down and all its horrors into Hawkins. But as the teaser reveals, Season 5 will pick up some time later, during the fall of 1987. Since Hawkins famously discovered the first Upside Down rift in the season 1 finale, the story will coincide with the third anniversary of Will Byers’ mysterious disappearance.
There will be eight episodes in the final season, but each one is set to be feature-length. Translation: expect eight Stranger Things movies.
The official summary for Season 5 teases high-stakes drama and emotionally resonant victories. Hawkins is forever changed by the Rifts. Our surviving heroes—past and present—are united by one goal: to track down and kill Vecna. But nobody knows where he is, or what he’s planning to do next. The U.S. government has put Hawkins under military quarantine and is doubling down on capturing Eleven. Cut off from the world, Eleven is forced into hiding yet again.
As the third anniversary of Will’s disappearance looms, a sense of foreboding builds. The teaser makes it clear: the showdown is coming. The Upside Down is darker and more deadly than ever. The only hope is for everyone—the full party—to come together for the ultimate battle.
Returning Characters, Returning Faces, Return Of Dropped Characters, Emotional Graveyard Stings
The entire core cast is set to return, plus a number of recurring characters who have become fan-favorites. Amybeth McNulty will reprise her role as Vicki, and Gabriella Pizzolo will return as Suzie, Dustin’s girlfriend. Jamie Campbell Bower is back as Vecna.
New faces include Linda Hamilton, who plays Dr. Ka; Nell Fisher joins the cast as Holly Wheeler; Jake Connelly as Derek Turnbow, and Alex Breaux as Lt. Akers.
As with every season, the teaser has several Easter Eggs and callback moments to make fans do a happy nerd-dance. In one sequence, Lucas and several others are hiding from a horde of demo-dogs in a scene that will surely make many of us reach for our popcorn buckets and joyfully cry, “they’re in the kitchen!” as it’s a callback to the iconic velociraptor kitchen scene in Jurassic Park. For those who loved the creeping horror of Season 4, there’s one jump-scare in the trailer that is more than enough to make you flinch: Vecna muttering that signature line, “found you” in that bone-chilling voice.
There are also a couple of emotional moments that will likely bring both tears and a pang of sadness as our favorite heroes will have to face yet another monster that only they can defeat. In the teaser, there is a quick shot of Eddie Munson’s gravestone, which has been defaced with the words “Burn in hell” scratched into it. This serves as a brutal reminder that even though Eddie sacrificed himself heroically at the end of Season 4, the town of Hawkins still views him as the “bad guy.” Eddie’s death was arguably the most devastating Stranger Things death since Bob Newby’s in Season 2, and it’s a fresh wound that is sure to sting for the entire season.
The way the season is being split for release will also be a source of conversation. Netflix will release all eight episodes in three parts, a decision that will drive fans who want to binge-watch the end of the story insane. Volume 1 drops November 26, 2025. Volume 2 premieres one month later on Christmas Day, December 25, 2025. And in what will surely be a teasingly bittersweet nod to how the entire Stranger Things saga is being wrapped up, the grand finale is on New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2025.
The decision to split the season into multiple parts means that Stranger Things is bound to dominate pop culture news cycles deep into the holiday season.
For long-time fans, Stranger Things Season 5 isn’t just the end of a streaming success story: it’s the resolution to a story that has spanned years, multiple generations of characters, and what seems like an infinite stream of internet theories, memes, and fan conversations and debates. As the new teaser makes clear, this is the end of the road. Every character, every loss, and every hard-fought victory has led us here.
The big question: will all of our favorite characters make it out alive? One thing’s for certain: when the clock ticks down to zero on December 31, every last member of the Hawkins crew will have given everything they have to end this nightmare—fo, one last time, together.
